The Zamboanga National High School-West will soon have two high-rise school buildings while a third unit will be built at Baliwasan Central School to cope with the yearly increase in enrollment, according to District 1 Congressman Celso L. Lobregat.

Lobregat visited the ZNHS and the Baliwasan CS campuses on Friday together with personnel from the Dep-Ed and DPWH to pinpoint the specific locations where the proposed one (1 unit) four-storey 20 classroom building and another one (1 unit) four-storey 24 classroom building will be constructed. The twin projects have a separate appropriation of Php 31.1-million and Php 35.5-million respectively and included under Batch 3 (K10) 2015 in the General Appropriations Act (GAA) CY 2015.

A third proposed building, a four-storey 20 classroom building with an appropriation of Php 31.1-million could no longer be implemented due to space limitation at the ZNHS-West.

Due to population and unavailability of space at the ZNHS-West, the Baliwasan Central School has been identified as an area for the senior high school. The graduates from junior high school of the ZNHS-West will go to the stand-alone senior high school in the Baliwasan Central School campus.  For this purpose, a four-storey 20 classroom building with an appropriation Php 31.3 million coming from the 5th batch of SHS is being programmed for the stand-alone senior high school located at the Baliwasan Central School.

In addition, the third proposed four-storey 20 classroom building that cannot be accommodated at the ZNHS West is now being programmed at the Baliwasan Central School to cater to the loss of space and classrooms due to the establishment of stand-alone senior high school at the Baliwasan Central School.

Lobregat, accompanied by personnel from DepEd led by Asst. School Superintendent & OIC, Office of the Schools Division Superintendent Pedro Melchor Natividad, Mr. Rosalio Conturno, Jr., Chief Education Supervisor-School Governance & Operation, and Dep-Ed Engineer Benjamin Saligan and from the DPWH District Engineer’s Office composed of  Engr. Roberto Dondi Sta. Elena, chief, planning & design, Engineers Joel Perla and Anna-Lyne Gregorio, Architect Christy Mane Rosalinda and Jomar Casimiro, made an ocular inspection and validation of the ZNHS proposed site as per DPWH data,  including that of the Baliwasan Central School where the 4-storey 20 classroom building will be built. — Jubels Santos
