District 1 Congressman Celso Lobregat, said that in an effort to make several existing public secondary schools “SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL READY”, DepEd has programmed the construction of more high-rise school buildings to cater to senior high school students.

On Friday, Lobregat visited the Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School together with officials of the DepEd and Engineers from the Department of Public Works & Highway (DPWH) to inspect the proposed area where a 4-storey 20 classroom building costing Php 31.7 million budgeted under BATCH 5 (SHS) 2015 is programed for construction.

However, upon ocular inspection, it was found out that the proposed site cannot accommodate the structure as originally planned due to space limitation, according to Lobregat. Hence, it was decided to recommend that two (2) units of 2-storey 6 classroom buildings be built, instead.

Lobregat said the two buildings, once completed, will cater to the Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School junior high school graduates who will be going to senior high school.

Originally, it was the plan to convert the DPLMHS into a stand-alone senior high school. But then, according to Lobregat, with the creation in the future of the San Roque and Pasonanca High Schools, the student population of the DPLMSH junior high school will be reduced making it comply with one of the requirements for a complete high school.  The Lobregat-sponsored House Bill 5365 creating the Pasonanca National High School was already approved by the House of Representatives and transmitted to the Senate for concurrence while HB 6155, also sponsored by Lobregat, creating the San Roque National High School was approved on second reading in the Lower House.

Later in the day, Congressman Lobregat visited the proposed site for the Pasonanca National High School at Lantawan, Pasonanca and met with Pasonanca Barangay Chairman Jun Julian who briefed the solon on current negotiations for the acquisition of the lot.

Lobregat said a 3-storey 15 classroom building worth  Php 21.3 million for the Pasonanca National High School is already budgeted under Batch 3 (K10) 2015.

Accompanying Lobregat were Dep-Ed officials led by OIC, Asst, City School Division Superintendent, Pedro Melchor Natividad, Mr. Rosalio Conturno, Jr., chief, education supervisor- school governance & operation, DepEd Engineer Benjamin Saligan and DPWH Chief, Planning & Design Section Roberto Dondi Sta. Elena, Engineers Joel Perla and Anna-Lyne Gregorio, Architect Christy Mane Rosalinda and CAD Operator Jomar Casimiro. — Jubels Santos
