The city government on orders of Mayor Celso Lobregat has declared portion of the Baliwasan Seaside Road as one-way street and implement traffic rerouting scheme in the area to pave the way for the improvement and rehabilitation of R.T. Lim Boulevard, Baliwasan Seaside section.

The orders take effect June 29, 2011 (Thursday) and will be in place for the duration of the proposed road improvement project.
In issuing Executive Order No. CL 408-2011 last June 21, Lobregat said the District Engineer’s Office of the Department of Public Works and Highways Regional Office 9 has lined up several infrastructure projects, one of which is the road reblocking of portion of the R.T. Lim Boulevard, Baliwasan-Raja Muda Mandi Road (Baliwasan Seaside section), this city, which was awarded to Unitec Builders with a project duration of 40 calendar days, excluding the curing period of 14 days.

He said the work would entail the breaking of existing concrete pavement, the removal of the same and the replacement of dilapidated concrete pavements of the road section. Thus, cognizant of its effects on the flow of vehicular traffic in the area, the City Administrator’s Office had recommended the temporary designation of a portion of Raja Muda Mandi Road, Baliwasan Seaside Section as one way street.

The one-way street will start from the junction of Tabujul Taupan road to its junction with Baliwasan Chico for the duration of the project.
All public conveyances such as jitneys, vans, light buses, and similar vehicles coming from the west coast plying the Upper Limpapa routes to include San Roque upon reaching the junction of Tabujul Taupan road and San Roaue shall turn right to Tabujul Taupan road, left to Rajah Muda Mandi road thence to Baliwasan Grande to the city proper, except for D’Biel Transport as its terminal area is at San Jose Baliwasan road.

Likewise, six-wheeler trucks, trailer trucks, fish carriers and haulers and similar trucks of gross tonnage of 5,000 tons above coming from th west coast shall be barred entry o San Jose Gusu-Baliwasan from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Mondays to Saturdays. They are to utilize the San Roque-Gov. Ramos-Saavedra St.-De Leon St., Sta, Maria-Gov. Camins Rod in going to the east coast or to the pier or thru Tabujul Taupan road Campo Islam-Raja Muda Mandi Baliwasan Seaside Road to Baliwasan Chico in going to the wharf.

The executive order also states that Baliwasan Seaside Road shall remain a one-way sreet from Baliwasan Grande to Baliwasan Chico for the duration of the project and that all motor vehicles coming from either R.T. Lim Blvd or from Baliwasan Chico shall be barred entry to Baliwasan Saside road.

The traffic scion of the city police and the barangay officials concerned have been directed to implement the order in coordination with the City Administrator’s Office. — Vic Larato
