Two persons were killed while more than 20 others were injured in two separate road accidents in Maasin and Lubigan yesterday and last Tuesday morning.

A passenger van bearing plate number ABL 8143 bound for Ayala and carrying 20 passengers was running on a very high speed around 5:30 a.m., when its driver Basher Salahiron lost control of the steering wheel while overtaking another vehicle resulting to a road crash.

The van turned upside down pinning some of the passengers and throwing off the rest due to the strong impact.

Chief Insp. Hingming Ladjaali, Sinunuc Police Station chief, disclosed that one of the passengers identified as Sofia Dimawala, 50, of Ayala, was declared dead on arrival at the hospital due to broken bones.

Others passengers were confined in the hospital  with injuries in their body. They were identified as Sali Ismael, Kausalyn Abdulkadil, Harold Edwahil, Sandra Hassan, Bernie Wee, Nadzmir Bensali, Jay Ann Dongalio, Asara Jalil, Saiful Ismael, Sara Jane Tores, Sheeva Rose Oranola, Omar Diman, Joselito Germo, Florante Solis, Wilfredo Ignacio and Nurhena Francisco.

The van driver was detained at the Sinunuc Police Station pending further investigation.

On Tuesday\ around 10:25 a.m.,  Edgar Apolinario y Amorin, 38, married, of Sitio Ontong, Quiniput, died after his motorcycle crashed along the Lubigan highway.

Police said that Apolinario was heading for Quiniput and upon reaching Lubigan Elementary School the motorcycle crashed and the latter landed on a hard object.

Apolinario was rushed to the Cristino Paragas Memorial Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. – Dan Toribio Jr.
