A comely young woman suspected to be behind the stealing of bags and other belongings of diners in restaurants was arrested yesterday morning along La Purisima Street.
The suspect was identified as Sandy Dalangtan, 21, separated, and a native of Butuan City. She was apprehended by policemen of the Patrol Section after she tried to steal the shoulder bag of a woman inside a restaurant fronting Immaculate Cathedral Church.

The would-be victim, whose identity has been withheld, told the police that she and her relatives were taking their lunch inside the restaurant when she noticed her shoulder bag missing from their table. She quickly stood up and saw Dalangtan leaving the restaurant with her shoulder bag. She chased Dalangtan and policemen who were present in the area joined her in the chase.
Dalangtan was collared and the shoulder bag was recovered while her three male companions eluded arrest.

At the central police station, Dalangtan admitted that she and her companions were behind the stealing of personal belongings in the different restaurants and fastfood joints.
The would-be victim said her shoulder bag contained valuables, money and papers.

The modus operandi of Dalangtan’s group is to enter a restaurant and pretend as customers. They watch for a diner leaving his or her bag or other valuables on the table and quickly pick it, then hastily leave the place. — Dan Toribio Jr.
