A computer science student died, while two others were in critical condition after undergoing severe physical fraternity initiation rites in Abong-Abong, Pasonanca last Wednesday.

Killed was Anthony Dalmacio Javier, 18,  a student of the Western Mindanao State University and a resident of Atis Drive, Baliwasan, this city.

Taken to the hospital for treatment were Joed Ramirez Marcos, 21,  and another unidentified fraternity plebe.

A report from the Sta. Maria Police Station disclosed that Javier and his two companions were undergoing initiation rites of the Tau Gamma Phi  when they suffered injuries from severe beatings that occurred near big Helmet  at Climaco Park in Abong-Abong.

Police said the three were beaten severely until they passed out.

When they fell unconscious other frat members rushed them to the hospital but Javier expired while undergoing treatment. He sustained multiple injuries onboth legs and back part of the body.

Marcos was still confined in a hospital while the other plebe could not be located by the police.

During a follow-up operation, police invited eight Tau Gamma Phil members for questioning. They were identified as Ian Bangayan y Libutan, 19, of Tumaga, Jhon Rey Directo y Sarte, 18, of Divisoria, Natheniel Tagapan y Capero 19, of Tetuan, Wendelle Tuvillara y Tabilon, 20, of Baliwasan, Cyril Guzon y Pelinggon, 20, of Putik, Bryan Martiñez y Alviar, 18, of Putik and Rene Aguines Jr. y Bayona, 19, of San José.

In another incident, two collectors of “wahoy” were arrested during a shabu-buy bust operation at the old public market last Wednesday morning.

The buy-bust operation was carried out by men of the Police Station 11’s Anti-illegal Drug Special Operation Task Force led by SPO3 Marlo Jon Buen.

Arrested were Ahmad Latip y Mohammad, 49 years old, married of Barangay Kasanyangan and TJ Ajibul y Pulalon, 25, married of San Jose.

Police confiscated from Latip’s possession 45 sachets of shabu, marked money and wahoy paraphernalia.

During the operation, Ajibul was also held by the team after they confiscated from his possession P830 bet money for wahoy and several paraphernalia.

A police report disclosed that Latip has been selling shabu and collecting bets for wahoy at the public market along with Ajibul.

The two were detained at the police station pending the filing of charges in court.

The 45 sachets of shabu were forwarded to the 9th PNP Crime Laboratory for examination.

In another incident, five holduppers robbed P2,500 from a pension house in Tugbungan early yesterday morning.

Supt. Nonito Asdai, chief of the Tetuan Police Station,  disclosed that the hold-up took place at the Bacolod Lodge located at Narra Drive in Tugbungan around 3 a.m.

Initial investigation disclosed that five persons arrived and announced the heist to the cashier at gunpoint

The holduppers took the money and cellphone from the cashier drawer.
