Mayor Beng Climaco has urged residents to fully cooperate with the measures set in place by security forces for a safe, secure, and successful Zamboanga Hermosa Festival 2015.

This, after a bomb explosion wounded five and killed 3 people in Lamitan City, Basilan yesterday.

Climaco reiterated the security measures and restrictions outlined in Executive Order 141 which prohibits the parking of motorcyles, the use of hooded jackets and bullcaps, and the carrying of backpacks in certain identified areas in the City throughout the duration of the festival activities.

“Ta pidi lang kita de ustedes cooperacion – no hay backpack, no hay usada de hood, and no hay bull cap. We would like to strictly enforce these,” Climaco said.

She likewise assured the public of the police force’s heightened alert and presence in key activities for the safety and security of all.

“We are deploying the entirety of the police in all our major events,” said Climaco.

Said the chief executive, instructions have been given to the City police to evaluate, assess, and look at the implications and how the incident has affected the City.

Further, Climaco enjoined residents to be alert and immediately report untoward incidents to authorities.

“Si tiene maga insidente, ta apela kita, no mas vos otros man panic. The command center is in the CDRRMO, and we will do our very best. The local government, the barangays, the different sponsors are all on duty,” she said.

She also called to task event organizers to observe safety measures and ensure the security of all participants for their activities.

Restrictions on parking, backpacks, hooded jackets, and bullcaps will be fully enforced in the whole stretch of Mayor Climaco Avenue from October 1 -10 from 7PM – 12MN for the Midnight Sale;  the whole stretch of RT Lim Boulevard from October 2-9, 5PM for La Cocina Chavacano, and; NS Valderrosa St. to Fort Pilar including Paseo del Mar from October 3-11 for the Novena Masses, Baban Drive straight to San Jose Road, Buenavista St., La Purisima St., I. Magno St., Don Pablo Lorenzo St., NS Valderrosa St. straight to Paseo del Mar on October 9, from 6 PM – 9 PM for the Parade of Lights.

Also restricted are Mayor Jaldon St., straight to Mayor Climaco Ave., straight to JS Alano St., straight to NS Valderrosa St., straight to Paseo del Mar on October 10, from 1PM – 6PM for the Street Dance competition; Justice RT Lim Rotonda to San Jose corner Alvarez St., going straight to Varela St. on October 11 from 8AM – 2PM for the Regatta de Zamboanga, and; Metropolitan Immaculate Conception Cathedral at La Purisima St., Gov. Alvarez St., Mayor Jaldon St., JS Alano St., NS Valderrosa St. to Fort Pilar Shrine on October 12 from 12 NN – 8:30 PM for the Grand Procession.  — Jasmine Mohammadsali
