The City Government through the City Tourism Office formally launched the Tourist Arrival Counter at the Zamboanga International Airport as part of its efforts to bring tourism promotion initiatives to a higher level.

The project was a joint venture of the City Government, the La Hermandad Zamboanguena and the Western Mindanao State University –College of Architecture. It is basically a private-public initiative (PPI) and its design is a combination of the different features that are reflective of Zamboanga. The design is the winning entry in a competition held for the same purpose held at the WMSU College of Architecture.

The La Hermandad Zamboanguena through the generosity of Stonerich Construction Company of Mr. Bong Nuno constructed the counter.

Ms. Fatmawati Nuno (representing Bong Nuno), Department of Tourism Region-9 Director Maryjune Bugante, Councilors Myra Paz Abubakar, Luis Biel III and Roel Natividad, together LHZ representative Bingbong Ledesma and Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Center-9 OIC Reynaldo Alforte led in the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon officially opening the counter for inbound visitors and tourists.

The tourist arrival counter will be manned by staff from the City Tourism Office who will answer queries from inbound visitors/tourists. It will help promote the image of the city and its attractions through the flyers and other materials that will be distributed. It will also be a venue where passengers can collect information related to services on dining, accommodation and other activities. — Sheila Covarrubias
