Army troops manning a checkpoint seized on Friday three Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)  tanks that were converted in improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Ungkaya Pukan town, Basilan.

The IEDs were aboard a  red multicab that was flagged down by soldiers of the army’s 18th Infantry Battalion in Brgy Suyak, Ungkaya Pukan around  5 a.m. The driver ran away heading towards Brgy Baguindan, Tipo-Tipo when the soldiers were about to inspect the multicab

Col. Rolando Bautista  Basilan Joint Task Group commander, has sent an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team in Brgy Bohe Suyak to recover and disrupt the IED to clear the road and enable the commuters to pass by unharmed.

On the course of pursuit operation, the soldiers  were fired upon by an undetermined number of Abu Sayyaf gunmen triggering a five-minute firefight. The gunmen withdrew in different directions with no casualty  on the government side.
