Two businessmen engaged in the selling of lobsters were shot dead by suspected sea pirates off Malangas, Zamboanga Sibugay last Saturday.

A police report identified those killed as Ramil Dela Cruz and Reneboy Duran, both residents of Vincenzio Sagun, Zamboanga del Sur. Both sustained multiple bullet wounds in the body.

Investigation showed that Dela Cruz and Duran went to sell lobsters in Malangas proper around 10 a.m. and failed to return home until their bodies were recovered aboard their pumpboat around 3:30 p.m. in Malangas seas.

Police said the two were already on their way home bringing the income proceeds from the lobsters they have sold when gunmen believed to be pirates opened fire on them and took their money.

Meanwhile, four holduppers robbed P2.9 million worth of jewelry from an outlet of M Lhuiller in Poblacion, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay last Saturday morning.

A police report disclosed that four men who pretended as customers arrived at the establishment and suddenly drew their hand guns and announced the heist.

One of the gunmen disarmed security guard Jurry Canda of his .38 revolver.

Police said that the holduppers ransacked the assorted jewelry displayed inside the establishment and then escaped aboard two motorcycles.

PO1 Judith Puriri, who was on duty and on foot patrol spotted the suspects while fleeing but failed to neutralize them until they successfully escaped.

Policemen have launched hot pursuit operation for the possible arrest of the holduppers. – Dan Toribio Jr.
