A carnapped Toyota Fortuner was recovered by operatives of the Highway Patrol Group-9 led by SPO1 Edgar Pitao and  PO3 Joel Claret on June 10,2011 along the highway in Barangay Mangahas, Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

SPO1 Pitao reported to HPG-9 Chief Sr. Supt. Romeo R. Uy that they spotted the gray Fortuner with plate number YEE 788 around 10:30 p.m. When they approached the driver, they found initial violations such as not wearing the seatbelt. The driver presented a questionable registration paper with the resident owner’s address in Ipil.

Uy directed Pitao and Claret to impound the motorvehicle in the nearest HGP9 Provincial Team Unit an  as soon as possible  drive it to Davao City for macro-etching of the chassis and engine number.
Uy  said that last year the National Headquarters reported that there are 200 Toyota Fortuners that were carnapped in the country and more than 50 units were recovered.

Uy directed Pitao and Claret to return to Zamboanga City after the Crime Laboratory process and impound the Fortuner. —  Allen Abastillas
