The city government expects to open few weeks from now the Integrated Bus Terminal (IBT) in Divisoria after the issues preventing its supposed early operation were resolved.

Dr. Elmeir Apolinario, assistant city administrator, said the IBT will be open in weeks’ time “hopefully, before November because we will see how we can manage it.”

This, after Apolinario together with City Engineer Luis Vicente Despalo and City Legal Officer Jesus Carbon Jr. met with the IBT contractor, the police and barangay officials to resolve certain technical issues.

The IBT construction, which started during the previous administration, was almost completed a couple of months ago, except for certain technical requirements.

“We were able to resolve the issues, but we still have to conduct separate meetings with bus operators and drivers, police, and barangay officials to discuss with them certain regulations of the IBT,” Apolinatio said.

He added that a meeting with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) officers is also necessary, probably after Fiesta Pilar, to discuss certain requirements.

In the meantime, he said the city government through the human resource office will have to address the personnel requirement for the IBT and their training.

“Once we address these issues, we can already open the IBT,” said Dr. Apolinario, department head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO).— Vic Larato
