Search continued on Thursday for a female student who went missing, while three others were confirmed killed when raging water spawned by heavy rain roared and swept them while swimming together with 20 other students at a waterfalls in Zamboanga del Sur.

The storm on Wednesday also sparked a lightning killing  one and injured another in Zamboanga City.

A police repor said 20 students of the Aurora Pioneers Memorial College went swimming at the Lubid waterfalls in the town of Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur where after incessant rain the water raged and swept them away around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Antonio said all of the 20  were taken by the raging water and thrown in separate directions.

He said three students were confirmed to have died. They were identified as Pauline Bermejo, Princess Cadutdut, both female and Luke Christian Besina.

Missing as of press time was Daisy Margarite Iway.

In Zamboanga City, a 23-year-old man was killed while his companion was injured and another temporarily lost his eyesight after a lightning struck while they took refuge under a forest tree as rain battered the hinterland village of Bunguiao and other outskirt villages.

The three men were making charcoal out of coconut shells when heavy rains lashed the village prompting them to seek shelter under the tree.The lightning struck killing one of them on the spot. He suffered burns on his chest,

A second victim told the police that  he and another companion were thrown away by the impact of the lightning.

He sustained injury in one of his fingers.  The third companion was blinded for five minutes.
