The Department of Health (DOH) recorded a decline by 399 in the number of dengue cases here in Region 9 from January to September this year compared to the same period last year.

This was announced Friday by Dr. Sitti Nurussamsi Amilasan, DOH regional coordinator for mosquito-borne diseases, citing the cases of dengue dropped to 4,720 from January to September this year as compared to the 5,119 cases recorded during the same period last year.

Amilasan said the main contributory factor to the decline in the number of dengue cases is the awareness of the public on the need to keep their surroundings always clean.

Amilasan said the maintenance of cleanliness is most effective way to eliminate if not minimize cases of dengue as clean community denies breeding grounds to mosquitoes that carry the dengue virus.

She urged the public to continue to maintain clean surroundings to further minimize occurrence of dengue in the region. — RGAAG
