Zamboanga City High School-main emerged champion in the highly charged Street Dance Showdown held at the City Coliseum in Tetuan Saturday, that highlighted the main program of Fiesta Hermosa 2014.

ZCHS-Main bested two other contestants and received P150,000 cash prize for its amazing choreographed routines. Each contestant received gift packs from Tang Juice while the choreographer of each school received one unit cell phone.

As in the past years, last Saturday’s performances were an embodiment of the evolution of dances by 3 major influences of the city: Subanen, Muslim and Spanish. This year however, due to erratic weather condition and security concerns, it was not staged on streets with the face-off at the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex but a pure showdown at the City Coliseum in Tetuan. Nevertheless, it drew thousands of people.

Fiesta spirit is now at fever-pitch as hundreds of Zamboangueños will make their way to Paseo del Mar to join the Fiesta Main Program today, October 10, at Paseo del Mar.

The Main Program will kick off with the awaited Streetdance Competition at 1 PM, with participating groups marching to musical beats from Canelar to Paseo del Mar. This will be followed by the opening program at Paseo del Mar to be led by City Mayor Beng Climaco along with Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde, local government officials as well as representatives and contingents from the different sectors of the City.

A highlight of the Fiesta Main program will be the announcement of the Streetdance competition winners and the awarding ceremonies of outstanding individuals who have brought honor and recognition to the City through their deeds of courage, excellence, and integrity.--Sheila Covarrubias
