Mayor Beng Climaco has called on high school students under the Pantawid Pampamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) to value education as it is the key to unlocking poverty and ensuring brighter future.

“I am telling you, education is a very important treasure. Do not allow poverty to rob you of the opportunity to study,” Climaco told the 800 4P students attending the regional launching of the Youth Development Sessions at the Zamboanga City High School Main in Tetuan yesterday morning.

“Do not allow anyone to steal it away from you, because education is your right,” she added.

The chief executive likewise underscored the critical role of youth is today’s society. Thus, she said education is their important tool as they play their role in society.

Through these sessions, Climaco stressed, “you (students) will learn the basic personality development, such us coping with the so-called identity crisis and the feeling of lack of self confidence, which are common among the young people.”

Meanwhile, Regional Director Zenaida Arevalo of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) explained that the Youth Development Sessions is a program of DSWD for high school students under the 4Ps.

Arevalo said the 800 session participants represent 35% of the 2,995 students listed in the 4Ps

The series of sessions will cover several topics on youth development, such as parent-child relationship, boy-girl relationship, infatuation (love) and crushes, sex education, adolescence, and the physical (body) development.
