For the first time in the political history of Lamitan City, Basilan, the incumbent mayor and vice-mayor are seeking re-elections unopposed

Liberal Party re-electionists Mayor Rose U. Furigay and Vice Mayor Roderick H. Furigay are  running without opponents in the May 10, 2016 elections.

“I’m overwhelmed with the support  of the people and thankful to the constituents of the city,” Mayor Furigay said said.

Vice Mayor Furigay belongs to the large Cuevas-Pamaran-Antonio-Flores clan whose members are descendants of Pedro Cuevas aka Datu Kalun,

Meanwhile, re-electionist Councilor Clarito “ Itoy” San Juan said that the two  lady councilors of Lamitan City — Arlyn Jawad- Jumao-as and Jessica E. Flores — have filed their certificates of candidacy for provincial board seat of Basilan’s District II. District II is composed of Lamitan City and the municipalities of Tipo-Tipo, Tuburan, Tabuan Lasa, Al- Barka, Ungkayan Pukan, Al Barka and Mohamad Ajul.

San Juan said that only Alex Estabillo represented Lamitan City in the provincial board in 1992 to 1995. Since 1995 up to the present  Lamitan City has no representative.

We are supporting their candidacy as representatives for Lamitan City,” San Juan said. — Allen Abastillas
