The City Government has expressed its intent to study carefully the issue of allowing online gambling in the City.

City Legal Officer Jesus Carbon said the local government will be weighing on the issue after conducting a thorough study of the issue and extensive consultations with the public.

“We are studying very carefully this matter of online gambling. Not only that, we are also studying very carefully the application for STL (small town lottery) operations here,” Carbon said Monday, October 19.

Carbon said “there should be enough public hearing” regarding online gambling and that the recommendations of the local government will greatly factor in the voice and the pulse of the people.

“The matter is still in the hands of the CLO and we will make our recommendations in due time,” he said.

Mayor Beng Climaco said that the decision on online gambling will abide “for that which is better for the people”, subject to the recommendations of the City Legal team. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
