ZC BSP Council joins Nat’l Scout Jamboree in Tagum PDF Print E-mail

The Zamboanga City Boy Scout Council has sent a 363-member contingent to the 16th National Scout Jamboree of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines that kicked off October 24-30 at the Energy Park, Apokon, Tagum City.

Local Council Executive Board Atty. JR Ortega assisted by Atty. Emil Aquino and City Veterinarian Mario Arriola are heading the contingent.

Themed “Peace and Development Through Scouting”, the weeklong national jamboree is aimed to provide a progressive, safe and enjoyable learning environment for the scouts in a bid to enhance their physical, social, mental, emotional and spiritual potentials.

Participants are expected to undertake high-adventure activities, including community service projects related to the current thrusts of World Scouting: Environment Education, Peace Education and Development Education through the Messengers of the Peace Initiatives, World Scout Environment Program and the Scouts of the World Award.

The National Scout Jamboree is considered as the largest scouting assembly in the country with some 18,000 scouts from 118 local councils nationwide attending. Around a hundred scouts from 10 countries are also participating as visiting delegations.

A press statement from the Tagum City Government said Vice President JejomarBinay, who is the BSP National President opened the jamboree as well as led the unveiling of the scouting monument designed by renowned Mindanao sculptor Kublai Milan. — Sheila Covarrubias
