Residents forming a long line amid the scorching heat at Paseo del Mar as they try  to beat the Comelec deadine on voter validation, got a relief yesterday when a water truck of the Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD) arrived to give them free water to quench their thirst.

The free water initiative came from District 1 House Rep. Celso Lobregat who requested the ZCWD to send a water truck to Centro Latino to offer free water to hundreds of anxious voters validating their voter’s registration.

The water truck will remain on standby in the area for the registrants until the last day of registration on October 30.

Lobregat also gave out some 10,000 plastic cups which will be used by the voter registrants.

“This is our way of public service to the people. Seeing the situation of the registrants here in Paseo, it is not a joke to stay under the heat of the sun for several hours. Some of them came as early as 6 a.m. and they were able to enter the validation area late in the afternoon already. They need water so we are here to serve together with water district,” Lobregat said.

As an official of the city, Lobregat said that it is his duty to make sure that the residents are well taken cared of.

He said the simple way of giving water to those who are thirsty is a his humble way of preventing them from suffering from heat stroke.

The solon thanked the ZCWD management for the immediate response. — Bhong Simbajojn/ RMN News
