Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (Zamcelco) General Manager George Ledesma is criticized for disobeying the National Electrification Administration’s (NEA) directive for the officers and members to attend the power forum organized by the local chapter of the National Association of Electricity Consumers for Reforms (NASECORE) at the City Council session hall the other day.

“The poor attendance can only be attributed to his (Ledesma) non-compliance with the NEA directive which we find tantamount to contempt of the NEA’s order signed by NEA’s  Deputy Administrator Edgardo Piamonte and NEA Director for OCET Nora Rivera in a fax message dated October 26, 2015,” NASECORE local chapter president Mon Follosco said.

The power forum is intended for MSEAC officers and members ad NEA representative Atty. Goldie Rivera was supposed to present the expanded function and important role of MSEAC in building electric cooperative while NASECORE national president Pete Ilagan as resource speaker was expected to talk on the financial aspects of Zamcelco.

District 2 Councilor Elong Natividad also expressed dismay over the non-compliance of Ledesma in directing all the officers and members to attend NASECORE’s power forum.

“This is grossly inefficient on the part of Zamcelco’s management headed by Ledesma by not writing nor giving directives to the concerned officers and members of MSEAC as there are new salient features on the duties and responsibilities of MSEAC,” Natividad said.

However, NASECORE’S hierarchy thanked Zamcelco Board President Omar Sahi for personally advising through text messages the officers and members of Zamcelco’s MSEAC to attend the forum a day before the event.

Follosco said despite the poor attendance out of the 100 members, the group decided to re-schedule the forum.

“To pursue our objective of giving life to the important role of the MSEAC in helping rebuild Zamcelco , we agreed among ourselves to re-schedule it on November 5, this year, at the SP Session Hall from 1pm to 5pm,” Follosco said.

Meanwhile, the City Council’s Committee on Energy and Public Utilities chaired by District 1 Councilor Charlie Mariano has scheduled to visit Zamcelco to observe the functionability of the four generating sets on November 5, 2015, at nine o’clock in the morning, with all councilors invited including NASECORE officials and members of the local tri-media. — Dan Toribio
