One of two holduppers who had held up three men was killed in a shootout with policemen in Barangay Buenavista last Saturday night.
City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo identified the slain suspect as Jumadil Kala y Ismael, of Sitio Binaloy, Buenavista.

De Ocampo said that around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, three men identified as Damaso Malinao Pogoy, 20, Dindo Conturno Quirante, 17 and Rodel Hesuma Lape, 18, all residents of Buenavista, reported to the Community Police Action Center that they were held up by two men.

Acting on the complaint, policemen along with the complainants went on a follow-up operation and spotted the two suspects along Buenavista Highway.
The victims positively identified the two men who took their cellular phones.

Policemen approached the suspects and tried to convince them to surrender, but they drew handguns and shot the lawmen.
Policemen retaliated triggering a brief shootout.

One of the two suspects who was later identified as Kala. He was hit in the body while his companion escaped. Kala was rushed to the Cristino Paragas Memorial Hospital where he expired while undergoing treatment.

Recovered from his possession was a .45 caliber pistol with six rounds of ammunition. — Dan Toribio Jr.
