Mayor Beng Climaco enjoined Zamboangueños to refrain from pointing fingers and allow ongoing investigations on the conflagration in Magay last Saturday to progress.

“It is very dangerous if we speculate. Let us veer away from speculations so as not to fuel and add fire to the incident,” said Climaco during her press briefing to the local media Monday, November 2.

Instead, she enjoined both media and residents to allow the investigations currently being conducted by the Bureau of Fire Protection-Manila, and the City Legal office to be fully implemented.

For her part, Climaco assured the public that no “whitewashing” will occur and those found liable for the fire which claimed 15 lives will be held accountable.

“The assurance as local chief executive that I will give is we will not allow a whitewash of the incident. Those that are accountable and responsible must be meted with the proper responses due the law,” Climaco said.

Meanwhile, the city government has mobilized its social service response to assist and see to the needs of victims and their families through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).  — Jasmine Mohammadsali
