About 70 preschoolers are expected to convene today at Perlita Hotel, this city for the Annual Regional Children’s Congress sponsored by the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office-9

The children’s congress is the final salvo of the activities lined-up by the Department for the month-long observance of Children’s Month. This year’s theme which is “Kung Bright Child Ang Gusto, Mundo’y Ingatan Mo” focuses on the significance of a good and healthy environment in the growth and development of a child.

The congress will showcase the singing and drawing talents of the preschoolers and painting for the youth.  There will be provincial representatives coming from Zamboanga del Norte, Sibugay and Zamboanga del Sur as well as city representatives from Pagadian, Dipolog, Dapitan, Isabela and Zamboanga City.

Vice Mayor Cesar Ituralde is expected to grace the affair with other government office representatives being partners of DSWD in promoting and protecting the welfare of the children who are considered as the future of the nation.

DSWD, adhering to its mandate of promoting the full development of a child, provides and implements various programs and services such as the Healthy Start and  Food for School programs.  Other services are in coordination with the local government units like the day care services.
