A Philippine Coast Guard employee and his elder brother were arrested few hours after they allegedly shot and killed a former barangay tanod and wounded a former barangay chairman along the Tetuan Highway yesterday morning.

Arrested were SN2 George Limen and his elder brother Broderick Limen, both of Barangay Zambowood.
George was tagged as the gunman who shot and killed Alfredo Apostol, 56, married, a former tanod, and wounded Herbert Abraham, 50, married, former chairman of Barangay Zambowood, while Broderick was said to be the man driving the getaway motorcycle in the daylight gun attack.

City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo disclosed that Abraham was driving a motorcycle with Apostol as backrider on their way to the Hall of Justice to attend a court hearing when the gun attack took place around 8 a.m..

Abraham told the police that they were going to the Branch 2 of the Municipal Trial Court where Apostol was scheduled to testify at against George Limen regarding a direct assault on an agent in authority filed against the latter when a motorcycle sidled up their motorcycle and the backrider opened fire on them some 400 meters away from the Sta. Cruz intersection.
Abraham said he stopped the motorcycle after sensing that Apostol was hit by the bullets fired on them. When their motorcycle stopped, Abraham said he saw George Limen holding a pistol and firing on them while his brother Broderick driving their motorcycle.

Abraham fled, but he was also hit on the back of his body. He nevertheless managed to drive the motorcycle and rushed to the Western Mindanao Medical Center to submit themselves for treatment.
Apostol was declared dead on arrival, while Abraham was in stable condition with a slight bullet wound on the back of the body.
A hot pursuit operation led by Tetuan Police Station chief, Supt. Albert Larubis, led to the arrest of George inside a department store along La Purisima St. and  Broderick at another department store where he was working as a salesman.

Abraham positively identified George as the gunman saying that he was just a few meters away from their motorcycle during the gun attack.
Abraham told the police that the court case stemmed from a dispute that started when he was the barangay chairman of Zambowood some years ago.
He said that on October 18, 2009 during a celebration called “Dia de Zambowood”, Apostol was on duty at the venue of activities wher he figured in an altercation with George.

Abraham said that George beat Apostol prompting the latter to file the case against him.
On the other hand, the Limen brothers denied the accusation in an interview with newsmen.

George said he was at the court as early as 8 a.m. waiting for the hearing while his brother reported for work at 9 a.m.
George added that his brother has no driver’s license and he cannot drive a motorcycle as what Abraham said.
Larubis said that murder and frustrated murder charges will be filed against the Limen bothers. — Dan Toribio Jr.
