Police investigators and agents of the National Bureau of Investigation are investigating an alleged suicide case  involving an army sergeant.

The incident happened at an Army detachment in Sitio Malasugat, Sangali last Thursday night.

A police report disclosed that SSgt. Edgardo Baguingan y Mina, 44, of Cagayan sustained multiple bullet wounds in the head and died on the spot.

Initial report said Baguingan killed himself using his issued M16 rifle inside a bunker of the 214 Infantry Battalion based in Sitio Malasugat in Sangali around 10 p.m.

However during ocular investigation police found out that the victim sustained multiple bullet wounds in the head.

Police also recovered the rifle beside the victim’s body loaded with one magazine containing 13 rounds of ammunition with one banana type magazine having 30 rounds of ammunition, three spent shells thrown on the floor, two cell phones and two empty bottles of Emperador brandy.

To determine whether there was foul play or none, police have requested investigators from the NBI to  look deeper into the incident. – Dan Toribio Jr.
