A former Sulu mayor was killed while his wife was wounded when gunmen aboard two motorcycles opened fire on their car in San Roque yesterday morning.
The fatality was Najib Maldisa, former mayor of Maimbung, Sulu. Wounded was his wife Mufaida.

Sta. Maria Police Station commander Chief Insp. Felix Martinez said that Maldisa expired while under treatmen at a hospital.

A police report disclosed that Mufaida was driving a Toyota Innova car with Najib beside her on their way to the city proper coming from Green Valley, San Roque, when four men aboard two big motorcycles chased them and the backriders opened fire on their car fronting the San Roque cemetery,

The gunmen sped away after the incident while the victims were rushed to a private hospital.

Martinez said that investigation was still ongoing for the possible arrest of the killers.

Her added that they were not discounting Sulu politics as one of the possible motives behind the gun attack.

He said that only Maldisa’s wife can help investigators look into the case because she is presumed as knowledgeable about any dispute her husband had with opponents.

City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo disclosed that the Sta. Maria police were still gathering more information and piecing them up together in an effort to solve the case. — Dan Toribio Jr.
