Personnel from the Office of the City Administrator and the Police Station 11 will round thoroughfares today to strengthen the city’s traffic system through an intensified implementation of City Ordinance No. 248, otherwise known as the Revised Traffic Ordinance of Zamboanga City.

City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer and concurrent officer-in-charge of the Office of the City Administrator Dr Elmeir Apolinario yesterday met with Police Station 11 Commander P/Supt. Jomari Albarico to discuss in length the conduct of a joint crackdown on traffic violators of parking regulations, particularly in the city’s commercial center.

“We will go out on an all-out campaign on the removal of illegal terminals in the area as well as the restoration and maintenance of traffic order in the city proper particularly colorum vehicles,” the city official said.

The Office of the City Administrator will conduct the campaign in collaboration with the city police in support of the latter’s efforts to alleviate the mounting traffic woes experienced in the city.

In preparation for the said crackdown, both offices have compiled a list of terminals that will be checked for compliance with the city’s traffic ordinance.

The city government and his office have not been remiss in implementing City Ordinance No. 248, however the city official stressed that there is need to further intensify the campaign amidst the rising complaints on the said state of the traffic system in the city especially during peak hours.

“We are trying to alleviate this by way of joint coordination efforts with the city police and our office,” he said. “We have to restore order on our city streets.” — Claudine Uniana
