Representative Francisco Ashley Acedillo lauded the resiliency of Mayor Beng Climaco and the people of Zamboanga in the face of daunting challenges.

“We understand that among all local chief executives, the Mayor of Zamboanga City faces one of the most significant and most daunting [challenges]. We laud her for her resilience, which of course is largely based also on the ability of the people of Zamboanga to be resilient,” said Magdalo Party List Representative Acedillo who was in the City to join the public hearing on the proposed House Bill 1725, known as the Philippine National Police Modernization Act.

The public hearing was spearheaded by the Committee on Public Order and Safety and presided over by the Committee Vice Chairperson Representative Samuel Pagdilao.

On the efforts of the local government to strengthen its security through the provision of budget, implementation of projects and sound security policies, Acedillo said these will go a long way to boost the security posture of the City.

Security, along with Health and Education, remains a priority of the local administration. Mayor Beng Climaco cited the consistent support of the LGU to the PNP and law enforcement agencies which are manifested in security initiatives and projects as well as a Php 200 M budget earmarked for the PNP.

The chief executive’s knowledge and understanding of the different aspects of security, said Acedillo, is also crucial because “sa kanyang capacidad bilang local chief executive, she can implement these policies”.

Meanwhile, Representative Samuel Pagdilao thanked Climaco for contributing her experiences, insights, and thoughts to the proposed PNP modernization bill.

Pagdilao expressed his hope that with a modernized PNP, the security sector will be ready to take on the challenges of the future and handle the security and peace and order of Zamboanga City. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
