Lamitan City is now producing organic fertilizer through  its Solid Waste Management Program.

The site of the processing plant is the Eco-Park at Sitio Panansangan, Barangay Ubit. The land area of controlled dumpsite is 3.5 hectars where the fertilizer is produced.

Raquel Hibionada, head of the Lamitan City’s General Service Office, disclosed that organic fertilizer’s selling price is P10 per kilo at present.

Hibionada said the project planning started 11 years ago by former Mayor Roderick H. Furigay who is now the vice mayor. It was continued by the present Mayor Rose U. Furigay.

Hibionada ssaid the city teaches people to segregate their waste before collection. Before the composition of the organic fertilizer,  Lamitan City bought earthworm from  the Zamboanga City Solid Waste Mangement. The earthworm helps decompose the biodegradable waste materials that are turned to organic fertilizer. — Allen Abastillas
