The military has placed its security force in Zamboanga City in full alert following the series of attacks in Paris, France on Saturday.

The jihadist Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), also known as Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) and Daesh claimed responsibility for the carnage that left more than 120 people dead.

Task Force Zamboanga Chief Col. Arthur Biyo told reporters here that since Saturday, they have already placed the city in highest alert level and has adopted the so-called target hardening in all its areas to monitor the presence and movements of ISIS sympathizers and local terror groups who would take advantage of the situation and inflict harm on the public thru acts of terror.

“We in the military are anticipating the so-called sympathy attacks and we are ready for this. That is why we have doubled our security preparations in the city together with your local police to anticipate any terror plot from  ISIS sympathizers from the nearby islands,” Biyo said.

He said they have already anticipated such situation to happen in Zamboanga City, however, the proper coordination among all law enforcement agencies is already in place as they are monitoring all relative threats from the nearby provinces.

“We have coordinated with the local government units, as well as the barangay level and we need good intelligence report with the help of the community, a very good coordination is necessary to deter terror threats in the city,” Biyo said.

The AFP official said they are presently validating reports of sympathy attacks from the south but  so far, there is none as based on their monitoring.

But, he said, necessary security preparations are being carried out by the military here to thwart any possible attempt.

Military checkpoints, inspections, and random combat patrols are being carried out round the clock in selected areas in the city to make sure that ISIS allies are being monitored for them not to have the chance to engage in terror act.

“We are requesting everyone’s help on this, a very good intelligence report is very vital. We urge the public to report to the AFP and the PNP here to do immediate actions,” Biyo said. – Bhong Simbajon/RMN News
