Smuggled rice, sugar, fags confiscated PDF Print E-mail

Men of the Culianan Police Station led by Sr. Insp. Elmer Solon and personnel of the Bureau of Customs and policemen of the Regional Public Safety Battalion confiscated several sacks of alleged smuggled rice and sugar in Talabaan Monday afternoon.

A police report disclosed that the operation was carried out around 2:30 p.m. at the warehouse of Darwisa Taib at Zone 4, Talabaan.

Initial investigation showed that the smuggled items belong to a certain Alih who was not around during the confiscation.

After an ocular investigaton, the seized smuggled items were brought to the warehouse of the BoC at the local wharf for proper disposition.

Police were still trying to determine the whereabouts of Alih for the filing of charges in court.

In another incident, men of the Sinunuc Police Station led by Chief Insp. Hingming Chang Ladjaali intercepted a Jungkung boat docked along the shore of Lower Calarian last Tuesday night.

Ladjaali said the boat was loaded with 70 boxes of Forbes cigarettes believed to be smuggled.

The seized items were turned over to the Bureau of Customs.

Meanwhile, around 11:45 p.m. the other day men of the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company intercepted a Toyota Tamaraw FX loaded with several cartons of imported cigarettes.

The driver ran away and eluded arrest.

A maroon Honda CRV was also held by the team that was parked in the same place loaded with cartons of imported cigarettes.

Around 6 a.m. the same team intercepted a blue KIA Bongo dropside truck and a tricycle carrying sacks of alleged smuggled rice.– Dan Toribio Jr.
