An Abu Sayyaf leader was sentenced to life imprisonment Monday for abducting a nurse in Zamboanga City in 2008.

Kahir Mundos, accused of kidnapping nurse Preciosa Feliciano, was sentenced to life term  by Zamboanga City Regional Trial Court Branch 87 Gregorio Dela Peña.

Also included in the kidnapping case were Ashra Jawari, Kadil Asalim, Usman Litjal and a certain “Boy Negro.”

Jawari, a classmate of Feliciano, invited the victim to an outdoor activity in July 2008, but then allegedly kidnapped her.

The suspects held Feliciano captive for four months and released her in Basilan after allegedly receiving a multi-million peso ransom.

Police captured Mundos in Parañaque last June 2014.

His arrest has been considered a big blow to the militant group since he was reportedly the group’s financier with direct links to international terrorist organizations such as the al-Qaeda and Jemaah Islamiyah.

The United States government earlier offered $500,000 bounty for information that would lead to Mundos’ arrest.

The ASG leader was imprisoned on May 2004 for a money laundering case after admitting that he facilitated the transfer of funds from al-Qaeda to the ASG. He escaped after three years in a provincial jail.

Mundos was brought back to Metro Manila on board a commercial flight early Tuesday. — ABS-CBN News
