Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte expressed his approval for Senate Majority Leader and Vice Presidential candidate Alan Peter Cayetano to mention his name and place their photos in the senator’s campaign paraphernalia.

“There is an implied approval, the fact na wala nako siya gibadlong. If it will help his campaign why not,” Duterte stressed.

Following Cayetano’s official announcement that he will run for vice president, several posters and tarpaulins of him with Duterte have appeared on the streets, thus, adding to the growing clamor for the two to form a tandem for 2016.

Even as Duterte had continuously turned down calls for him to run for president, he has expressly shown support for Cayetano’s VP bid.

“He can use my name because he is my friend. I would not deny that privilege to him or to another friend,” the mayor said in recent interviews.

Cayetano had appeared twice in Duterte’s regular television program, “Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa,” where they talked about their shared vision to address problems on criminality and lack of inclusive growth, among others.

The senator earlier said he is for Duterte’s Federalism approach to government and has been proposing the decentralization of government by funding more projects that will kick start countryside development, particularly in Mindanao.

“I hope you’ll make it. The vice presidency is very important because whatever happens to the president it is the vice president who will take over,” Duterte told the senator two weeks ago.

He added that whoever wins as president should make Cayetano a member of the cabinet “so he can translate his ideals into reality.
