‘Fetival of Peace’ makes 500 folks happy in Basilan PDF Print E-mail

Unparalleled happiness was written on the faces of more than 500 children and adults from four barangays in Mohammad Ajul municipality, Basilan  while they enjoyed a day-long  affair called Children of War Festival of Peace sponsored by the Save the Children of War Basilan Association headed by its founder-president Dr. Arlyn Jawad-Jumao-as last Saturday.

Once again the affair ended successfully as no less than the mayor of the municipality Hon. Talib Pawaki and the barangay council of Buton where the activity was held, have shown their support to Jumao-as’ group.

After the short message of Jumao-as and Mayor Pawaki, parlor games came where the children received several prizes.

Aside from the parlor games, the children and adults received medicines, multivitamins and many others.

Several other gifts were given to the recipients like school supplies including reading materials, religious materials, food, toys for both male and female, bicycles, balls and other sport materials.

Interviews with the young recipients showed said they enjoyed the affair and were surprised to received many gifts from Dr. Jumao-as’ group.

“Alhamdullilah, magsukul si tatabangan duk kahapan si kami kemon,” they said in yakan dialect.

The children along with their respective parents expressed their profound thanks to Dr. Jumao-as and the group along with the sponsors.

The activity of the Save the Children of War Basilan Association was made possible with the support of sponsors —  JCI-Lamitan headed by Inee Flores—president, 9th Special Forces Company led by Capt. Dexter Dantog, MCNAP, Furigay College Inc., United Basilan and Zamboanga City Mayo  Beng Climaco-Salazar.

The Save the Children of War Basilan Association had already visited several municipalities in Basilan and “wiped” the tears of the children who have experienced gun violence in their respective places. – Dan Toribio Jr.
