Dipolog City under Mayor Evelyn T. Uy is among six Philippine cities that have received the Presidential Award as Child Friendly Cities for 2014. It was also also awarded by the Asia Foundation for its Certified Proficient Performance Governance System in 2015.

The other city awardees  for PPGS 2015 are  Mandaue City, Balanga Butuan,  Talisay City Negross Occidental.

Mayor Uy has reminded the people of Dipoloh City to make the city safe and clean.

She alo  warned Dipolog residents against smoking in public places as smoking is prohibited in the city except in private business places that have designated areas for smoking. This is pursuant to  City Ordinance 123-100 which provides punishment for those caught smoking in prohibited areas. First offense is P1,500. Third offense is 5,000. Violators who can not pay the fines and penalties will be jailed or required to perform community service.

In another development, Uy revealed the city’s support and contribution to climate change like planting of mangroves in he marine protected areas on coastal areas like barangays Miputak, Ulingan, Galas.

“We have also an ordinance in which residents and businesses are mandated to clean their front areas. If violated, they are to suffer from fines and penalties,” Uy  said.

She also revealed that Friday and Saturday have been declared as “ No Plastic Day Use” in public markets, malls, public and private establishments. — Allen Abastillas
