As a result of Zamboanga City’s active participation in the 12th China ASEAN Exposition held in Nanning, China last September, an investor from China is in Zamboanga City to explore the possibility of investing on tomato paste manufacturing at the Zamboanga Economic Zone and Freeport Authority in San Ramon.

Liu Zongjun, General Manager of Xinjiang Rising Sun Tomato Products Co., Ltd. arrived in the city Thursday to meet with local businessmen and Zamboecozone officials headed by Chair Chris Arnuco to talk about his proposal on tomato paste products. He also did an ocular inspection at the Ecozone in San Ramon where he intends to set up his investment.

The proposed investment is expected to complement and support the canning industry in the city which imports tomato paste products for their variety of sardines products. Should the venture pushes through, sardines companies can source tomato paste products locally.

Liu, accompanied by his interpreter, Zamboecozone chair Arnuco and called on Mayor Beng Climaco in City Hall Thursday afternoon. He presented the mayor with a token of appreciation for the warm welcome in Zamboanga.

Mayor Climaco, meanwhile, presented Liu with a token of appreciation and appealed to the businessman to firm up plans with his local counterparts citing the city’s potentials as an economic hub.

Climaco, who headed the Zamboanga delegation to Nanning, China from Sept. 18-21, expressed elation that the promotional campaign that the city launched through the international event is bearing fruits through the return visit of the investors from China and the ASEAN countries. — Sheila Covarrubias
