Mayor Beng Climaco will spearhead the opening program for the Urban Poor Solidarity Week celebration that will be highlighted by the Shelter Fair at Paseo del Mar Saturday, November 28.

The activity kicks off at 6am with zumba exercises to be participated by thousands of members of the Zamboanga City Homeowners and People’s Organizations Federation, Inc. (ZCHPOF) including representatives from key shelter agencies and developers.

The opening program will follow at 7am with Mayor Climaco leading the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the shelter fair together with James Makasiar, president of Private Developers, Marisa Aizon, chairperson of the ZCHPOF and other guests.

The shelter fair will be a whole day affair showcasing house and lot packages/units offered by private developers as well as services offered by key shelter agencies. The Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC), Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC), National Housing Authority (NHA) and Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB) are among the participating shelter agencies.  A total of 12 private housing developers will also join the activity.

PAG-IBIG Fund or the Home Development Mutual Plan will entertain queries for the disposal of acquired assets and mandatory coverage of all income-generating Filipinos- be they employed, Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and even association and organization members, formal or informal.

The Urban Poor Solidarity Week is slated Nov. 28 to Dec. 7 and is jointly organized by the City Government through the Housing and Land Management Division, the ZCHPOF, Inc. with key shelter agencies and developers. It is the time when all members get together to get updates on issues and concerns affecting the sector and to foster friendship and camaraderie as well.

The celebration will also be highlighted by the Women’s Congress 2015 with the theme “Empowering Women towards Change; in the Family, Community and Society,” on Dec. 4 from 8am-5pm at the Royce Convention, Grand Astoria Hotel and the 2015 UPA/HOA Leaders’ Convention on Dec. 7 from 8am to 5pm also at the Royce Convention in Astoria Hotel. — Sheila Covarrubias
