A prominent local businessman was shot dead in broad daylight by one of two motorcycle-riding gunmen near the Budgetwise  along Campaner Extension yesterday morning.

Killed was Philip Jacinto Lim, 53, married, owner of  Unicon Enterprises, a hardware store . He sustained bullet wounds in the head and body.

Police said that Lim expired while undergoing treatment at the Zamboanga City Medical Center.

Chief Insp. Joel Tuttuh, City Police Office’s spokesperson, disclosed that Lim was driving his motorcycle coming from Veterans Avenue and going to Campaner Extension on the way to his store along Tomas Claudio Extension when gunmen aboard a motorcycle tailed and opened fire on him  near the entrance of Budgetwise Store.

Witnessesssaid Lim was about to make a left turn when the two men aboard a motorcycle shot him three times.

When Lim crashed on the road, the gunmen sped away, witnesses told the police.

The same witnesses said the gunmen were young,  with ages from 18 to 30 years old.

Helpful passersby rushed Lim to the Zamboanga City Medical Center where he expired.

Lim belongs to a family with various business interests in Zamboanga City.

Police were still digging deeper into the case, hoping  to unmask the killers and the mastermind. – Dan Toribio Jr.
