Operatives of Joint Task Group Sulu arrested an Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) member during operations in Jolo on Friday afternoon.

The operations took place at 2:40 p.m. at the vicinity of Jolo Pier.

Brig. Gen. Alan Arrojado, Joint Task Group Sulu commander, identified the suspect as Saddam Jailani.

Jailani was arrested by intelligence operatives and patrol units of the 2nd Marine Brigade, 35th Infantry Battalion, PNP Special Action Force, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and NICA 9.

Jailani has a pending warrant of arrest with Regional Trial Court, 7th Judicial Region, Branch 9, Cebu City.

“Subject is also under the group of ASG sub-leader Alhabsy Misaya which is responsible for the kidnapping of two Malaysians and one (South) Korean (early this year),” Arrojado added.

Jailani was set to be transferred to Zamboanga City for custody.

“Moreover, all units under Joint Task Group Sulu were alerted for possible retaliatory actions against government troops and other soft targets, and intensified checkpoint operations,” Arrojado said.
