Climaco cites barangays’ role in vital city concerns PDF Print E-mail

Mayor Beng Climaco Sunday underscored anew the very significant role played by the barangay sector in crime prevention, disaster risk reduction and management and other concerns, as she sought barangay officials’ continuous support and cooperation.

The chief executive said this as she keynoted the general assembly of the Federation of Barangay Kagawads in Zamboanga (FEBARKAZA) headed by Guiwan kagawad Jihan Edding, which was also attended by barangay chairpersons from the city’s 98 barangays.

“Quiere came abla con ustedes muchas gracias gayot cay ustedes el na frontera. We have experienced a lot of challenges which is why we have designated barangay officials as incident ground commanders quien responsable ental caso tiene maga emergencia,” the mayor told the over 700 barangay officials attending the assembly supervised by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

She cited two cases where the barangay officials manifested commitment and dedication to service. These include the recovery of kidnap victim in the coastal barangay of Tumitus last Sept. 7, 2015 and the apprehension of a suspect in a crime incident in Canelar in 2014 which were all achieved due to the active support and participation of the concerned barangay kagawads.

The mayor urged the barangay officials to continuously support and cooperate with the authorities particularly the police, military and the local government to ensure peace and security in the barangays.

With the city’s priority on Security Health and Education, Mayor Climaco said her administration will exhaust all efforts to coordinate with the DILG and other concerned agencies to make the barangays more capable meeting all the necessary requirements set by the DILG so that the barangay officials can deliver and perform their mandated tasks for the people. — Sheila Covarrubias
