Women’s Congress set on December 4 PDF Print E-mail

Women representing the different sectors in the city will convene for a Congress on Friday, December 4 at Royce Convention in Astoria Hotel in line with the celebration of Urban Poor Solidarity Week (UPSW).

Themed “Empowering Women towards Change, in the family, community and society,” the Women’s Congress is organized by the City Government through the Housing and Land Management Division and the Zamboanga City Homeowners’ and People’s Organizations Federation, Inc (ZC-HPOF) and ZC Homeowners and Urban Poor Women’s Organization,  Inc. (ZCHUPWO).

Mayor Beng Climaco, a staunch women advocate, will keynote the event set from 8am-5pm. Other guests will include Councilor Myra Paz Valderoza, Chairperson of the Council committee on Women, Councilor Percival Ramos, Chairperson of the Council committee on urban poor, NGOs and POs and City Social Welfare and Development Officer Socorro Rojas.

The Women’s Congress will be highlighted by lectures on the Magna Carta of Women and Effective Parenting with Carmencita Luna of the Department of Social Welfare and Development as resource speaker.

ZC-HPOF Chairperson Marissa Aizon will give the welcome message while ZCHUPWO Chairperson Violeta Alejandro will deliver the opening address.

The Urban Poor Solidarity Week celebration kicked off November 28 at Paseo del Mar with thousands of members attending the event. A shelter fair participated by key shelter agencies and private developers highlighted the opening activity.

The 2015 UPA/HOA  Leaders Convention set from 8am-5pm at the Royce Convention, Astoria Hotel on December 7, will cap the celebration. — Sheila Covarrubias
