Zambo’s ‘Batang Pinoy’ athletes haul 44 medals PDF Print E-mail

Zamboanga City’s Batang Pinoy athletes harvested a total of 44 medals in the recently concluded Batang Pinoy National Finals held in Cebu City from November 27-December 2.

Of the total 44 medals harvested, 16 were gold, 9 silver and 19 bronze.

City Sports Director Cecil Atilano said the Zamboanga delegation performed well in karatedo, pencak silat, weightlifting, wrestling and wushu.

The karatedo team garnered 2 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals; Pencak Silat team-2 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals; Weightlifting team- 5 gold, 3 silver and 8 bronze medals; Wrestling team- 6 gold and 3 bronze medals and Wushu team- 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.

Meanwhile, Mayor Beng Climaco extended her greetings to the delegation and thanked the athletes for continuously exerting their best efforts despite the challenges of not having a sports facility in the city.

She said the city’s athletes continue to bring honor and pride to Zamboanga in their participation not only in local and national but also international competitions.

The Zamboanga delegation departed Cebu, 9pm Thursday, Dec. 3 and arrived Zamboanga City 5pm Friday, Dec. 4.  — Sheila Covarrubias
