District 1 Congressman Celso L. Lobregat was among the special guests invited to the blessing of KCC Mall de Zamboanga last Friday, December 4, 2015 in the afternoon.

A mass celebrated by His Excellency Archbishop Romulo Dela Cruz and concelebrated by more than 30 Archdiocesan priests preceded the formal blessing. A short program followed the mass and one of the sons of Mr. Chan Sui Lam, Alvin gave the welcome remarks and introduced the special invited guests.

Mayor Maria Isabelle C. Salazar was first asked to give her message and Congressman Lobregat was likewise requested to give his message.

Congressman Lobregat who spoke in Chabacano, English and Filipino said that he vividly recalled that hot mid-day morning of October 10, 2012. Upon the invitation Mr. Chan Sui Lam, he, in the company of PNB Vice President for Mindanao Tessie Sebastian, Councilors Nonong Guingona (+), Eddie Saavedra, former City Social Welfare Development (CSWD) Officer Kit Barredo and BG Guingona proceeded into an empty and barren 3.5-hectare lot between the Jollibee Camins and EMCOR along Gov. Camins Avenue. And there and then a simple ground-breaking ceremony ushered-in the entry of KCC mall into the City of Zamboanga. It was a historic day not only for KCC but for Zamboanga as well.

Construction started soon after and was supposed to be finished in 18 months. Unfortunately, the 2013 Zamboanga Siege happened and the construction was delayed and even some of the potential concessionaires had their second thoughts.

The KCC mall de Zamboanga is to formally open on Thursday, December 10, 2015. Lobregat who welcomed the entry of KCC on October 2012 now congratulated Mr. Chan Sui Lam who was described by Congressman Lobregat as a very simple and humble person with a great vision and grandiose plans. — Jubels Santos
