Mayor Beng Climaco will keynote the Leaders Convention of urban poor and homeowners associations set Monday, December 7 capping the celebration of Urban Poor Solidarity Week (UPSW).

The activity will be held at the Royce Convention, Grand Astoria Hotel from 8am to 5pm.

The gathering will give the urban poor leaders the opportunity to tackle concerns as well as updates concerning their sector.

Mayor Climaco is expected to outline her administration’s achievements as well as plans and programs for the urban poor sector implemented through the City Housing and Land Management Division and the City Social Welfare and Development Office.

The convention will be highlighted by lectures related to Republic Act 7279 specifically on Presidential Proclamation process and status of requests to be presented by Atty. Alvin Claridades, Director Asset Reform Group of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) and Magna Carta for Homeowners Associations to be presented by representatives from the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB).

Also to take part in the convention are Councilor Percival Ramos, chairman of the Council committee on Urban Poor, NGOs and POs; Atty. Ferdinan Imam, Chief of Operation of the Presidential Commission on Urban Poor; City Social Welfare and Development Officer Socorro Rojas; Marissa Aizon, Chairperson of the Zamboanga City Homeowners and People’s Organization Federation (ZCHPOF) and Cesar Gregorio, Vice chair of the ZCHPOF, Inc.

The UPSW kicked off November 28 with a zumba activity and day-long shelter fair at Paseo del Mar.

Last Friday, December 4, women leaders from the different urban poor and homeowners associations in the city converged also at the Royce Convention for the 2015 Women’s Congress where they discussed issues and concerns affecting the sector. — Sheila Covarrubias
