The most expensive equipment for the Cancer Center is the Linear Accelerator.

Dr. Romeo A. Ong, Medical Director of the ZCMC confirmed that the infrastructure component of the Cancer Center has been funded by the Public-Private Partnership Fund and the construction is on-going. However, it is only now that the DOH is going to fund and bid-out the medical equipment component.

Congressman Lobregat in his response thanked Secretary Garin and the DOH who stated that the long talked-about Cancer Center at ZCMC will soon be realized. Lobregat also reaffirmed that during his administration as Mayor of Zamboanga City, Health was one of the top priorities. As evidence, the city government donated a state of the art Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine to the ZCMC. The MRI machine which was bided through the DOH cost more than P62 million.

Lobregat also informed Secretary Garin that during his term as city mayor, many health clinics/wellness centers were constructed and rehabilitated.

Record shows that thirty-six (36) new health centers have been completed, on-going construction and undergoing bidding amounting to P58.15 million since 2007. Forty-seven (47) facilities have also been rehabilitated, on-going rehabilitation and undergoing bidding process amounting to P27.03 million.

In the program, Secretary Garin distributed blood pressure kits to the Barangay Health Workers (BHW’s) which earlier, Congressman Celso Lobregat and Congresswoman Lilia Nuño distributed 100 BP apparatuses each courtesy of DOH.

This was the first time that Secretary Garin steps foot in Zamboanga City and it was also announced that Secretary Garin’s birthday is on December 10. In response, Congressman Celso Lobregat surprised the latter with the song “Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang” to the roar of the crowd. Congresman Lobregat also gave chabacano dictionaries to Sec. Janette Garin, Dr. Ruby C. Constantino and Dr. Joshua Brillantes.-- Jubels Santos
