Two bandits were killed, one was arrested and six others, including a policeman, were wounded during a police operation early Tuesday morning in Barangay Poblacion, Talusan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Armed with search warrants, Police Regional Information Officer Chief Insp. Rogelio Alabata said operatives of the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Public Safety Company led by Supt. William Gadayan raided two houses occupied by Edris Mohammad  and Basilisa Llanos and Noel Llanos in Barangay Poblacion around 3:50 a.m.

However while the raiding team was approaching the area, Gadayan said the target suspects opened fire on them using high powered firearms like AK 47 rifle, M-16 and M4 rifles.

Gadayan said he and his returned fire triggering a shootout, after which Mohammad and Basilisa were found dead while Noel was arrested.

PO2 Noriel Laureata, one of Gadayan’s men, was wounded in the shootout.  Five others were caught and wounded in the crossfire. They were Fatima Ayesha (minor), Lydia Mohammad, Albaina Mohammad, NoribaAmsani and Kisma Mohammad (minor), all residents of the said place.

They were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Gadayan said that after the exchange of gunfire, they recovered an M1 Garand rifle owned by Mohammad, an AK47 rifle, 12 Gauge shotgun, carbine rifle, baby armalite, M4 rifle, .45 caliber pistol and assorted ammunition.

The recovered firearms and ammunition were retrieved and were submitted to the PNP Crime Laboratory for ballistic test.
