Mayor Beng Climaco yesterday spearheaded the distribution of cash assistance to families affected by the fire in Tumaga last October.

Climaco accompanied the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) team at the barangay Tumaga multi-purpose hall to hand over the cash assistance to the families whose homes were damaged by a fire that struck the Caridad Murga property on October 5.

Assisting Mayor Climaco was Tumaga chairperson Jacqueline Lim and other barangay officials.

Over 200 families were affected by the incident, which also killed an elderly and a minor.

During the distribution, the Mayor shared with the affected families’ words of encouragement as well as the latest updates regarding the pending decision over the revised subdivision plan for the property.

“Ya manda yo con el City Planning este dia pati manyana man meeting…By December 15, ya abla yo con Engr. Sicat, abla ya canaton. Si hinde pwede, hinde pwede. But if there is an option, si tiene lugar pwede planta el casa, abla tambien sila,” explained Climaco.

Recall that after the fire incident in the property last October, residents of the Caridad Murga compound requested Climaco and the property owner to allow them back in the area.

However, as the area is prone to floods and other environmental hazards, the City Government forwarded the revised subdivision plan to appropriate local agencies for evaluation and recommendations. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
