Pascua na Zamboanga 2015 events shift to high gear Monday, December 14, as the City Government kicks off Canciones de Pascua, a weeklong concert featuring live performances of different choir groups at the City Hall grounds starting at 7pm.

The Christmas-themed concerts will run until Dec. 18 and is open to the public for free. Various choral groups in the city will do the nightly presentations.

With Canciones de Pascua, the public will not only enjoy the Candyland themed Christmas decors and lights at City Hall but will also get the chance to hear the different choirs in a glorious celebration of timeless Christmas music.

Meanwhile, judging for the Open Christmas Lantern competition will be held today at the R.T. Lim Boulevard but the winners will be announced and awarded on the last night of the Canciones de Pascua on Dec. 18.

The Lantern designs must be circular or star-shaped with at least 6 ft. high and 6 ft. wide as measured from both extremities and should adapt to the “Candyland” theme of Pascua na Zamboanga 2015. The lanterns should also include lighting systems. .

The criteria for judging will include artistry 30%, craftsmanship 30%, luminance (use of light) 30% and relevance to the theme (candyland) 10%.

First place winner will receive P10,000 while the second placer will get P7,000 and the third placer will bring home P5,000. The fourth and fifth placers will receive P3,000 and P2,000 respectively. All the winners will also receive plaques each.

Pascua na Zamboanga is a month long festival intended to spread the holiday cheers. It kicked off December 1st with the ceremonial switch-on of Christmas decors and lights in City hall and other land marks. — (Sheila Covarrubias
