Better safe than sorry

Mayor Beng Climaco has maintained her support for a tighter and heightened security to prevent any eventualities in the City, especially this holiday season.

This, after City Police Chief PSSupt. Angelito Casimiro reported the announcement of the National Intelligence Board – Special Monitoring Committee placing Zamboanga City, along with other cities, under threat level III or a high terrorism threat level.

“In terms of the level, as what I have been saying, all the police, military enforcement operatives must maintain a heightened level of alert, no matter what the national threat is to make sure that we are always on our toes,” declared Climaco Monday, December 14.

“Again, it is best for us to be always safe than sorry, and to be always on the alert,” she said.

The city is confident that the assignment of the category III level to Zamboanga City will not be hindrance in terms of investments.

We have added advantage in other areas, a then a little less in others…it should not be a hindrance,” assured City Investment and Promotions Officer Apple Go.

Go said investors and the business community will, however, request for security briefings from the City Police office to be kept abreast of security updates and situation in the City.

According to Casimiro, threat level III is classified as high terrorism threat level due to persistent reports suggesting presence of the ASG and the BIFF to launch bombing attacks and engage in kidnap for ransom activities.

Aside from Zamboanga City, other areas placed under alert level III include Palawan, certain areas in Boracay, Southern portion of Negros Island, Isabela City, the cities of Dipolog and Dapitan, Cotabato City, certain towns and municipalities in Sultan Kudarat, North Cotabato, and Maguindanao, Kidapawan City, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and Marawi City. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
